Interested in becoming a Plumber, Electrician or Civil Engineer?

New College Swindon invites students to step into the world of Plumbing, Electrical Installation and Civil Engineering through a series of hands on, industry inspired activities. This event is ideal for young people who enjoy problem solving, practical work and discovering how the built environment is designed, constructed and maintained. From the first pipe they cut to the first circuit they wire, students will experience the technical skill, precision and creativity that these essential industries rely on. Students will rotate through three interactive sessions, each led by our specialist teaching teams. These activities are designed to give learners a real taste of the tools, techniques and thinking used by professionals across the sector.
Build and Test a Pipe Circuit (PLUMBING) Students will assemble and test a working pipe system, gaining an introduction to real plumbing techniques and the importance of accuracy and watertight connections.
Wire a Working Lighting Circuit (ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION) Learners will explore how electricians safely wire and control lighting in buildings, developing an understanding of circuits, components and safe working practices.
Design and Test a Mini Bridge (CIVIL ENGINEERING) Students will discover how civil engineers design safe, efficient structures by creating and testing their own mini bridge. This session highlights the engineering principles that support roads, buildings and public infrastructure.
The evening will begin with an introduction from the Head of Faculty, Danny Shorter in the Main Hall setting the scene for the activities and giving students an overview of the pathways available within Services & Technology.
This taster evening gives students the chance to:
